Neobyčajná história, neobyčajného automobilu Mercedes G sa začala písať v roku 1979. Samotný návrh tohto pôvodne armádneho vozidla bol tiež neobyčajný a s malými zmenami sa vyrába už viac ako 40 rokov. Za vznikom pôvodného konceptu Mercedesu G stál vtedajší významný akcionár Iránsky Šah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Podľa jeho návrhov a požiadaviek vyvinul Mercedes vojenské doprovodné auto pre jeho osobnú ochranku. Veľmi rýchlo však u Mercedesu zistili, že sa im podarilo navrhnúť niečo výnimočné, ideálne pre armády celého sveta. O tom svedčí i fakt, že sa G verzia dostala do licenčnej výroby Peugeot pod označením model P4, ktorá ich vyrábala pre Francúzku armádu. Celosvetovú slávu si získal model G v roku 1980, kedy počas návštevy Jána Pavla II v Nemecku výrobca postavil slávny Papamobil práve na báze modelu 230 G Cabriolet.

Model auta z našej recenzie opäť predstavuje ďalšie neobyčajné príbehy. Firma NOREV urobila týmto modelom poctu značke Mercedes za jej výnimočný výkon v pretekoch DAKAR. Mercedes sa rozhodol, že do 5. ročníka pretekov DAKAR nasadí najvýkonnejšiu verziu G triedy model 280 GE. Tá mala výkon 116kW s objemom motora 2,7ccm. No nik nečakal, že tento ročník bude neobyčajný pre mnohých nadšencov pretekov DAKAR dvojnásobne. Značka Mercedes ako jediná v histórii dosiahla v pretekoch DAKAR dvojitého víťazstva a to v kategórii automobilov a kamiónov (Mercedes-Benz 1936 AK). Snažili sme sa kontaktovať NOREV, či doplní model 280 GE o jeho partnera z triedy kamiónov, no odpovede sme sa nedočkali.

Mercedes has decided to use the most powerful version of the G-class model 280 GE in the 5th year of the DAKAR race. The car had an output of 116kW with an engine capacity of 2.7cc. But no one expected this year to be extraordinary for many DAKAR enthusiasts twice as much. The Mercedes brand is the only one in history to achieve a double victory in the DAKAR race in the category of cars and trucks (Mercedes-Benz 1936 AK). We tried to contact NOREV to add a truck class partner to the 280 GE, but we didn’t get an answer.
Už na prvý pohľad pôsobí model v mierke 1/43 prepracovane a detailne. Naviac výrobca vybavil model podstavcom s jednoduchou diorámou, logom DAKAR a menami posádky. Tu by sme sa chceli ešte pozastaviť, práve meno pilota Mercedesu 280 GE Jacky Icks (Jacques Bernard “ICKS”) zosobňuje tiež neobyčajnú závodnú históriu. Tento pretekár má za sebou bohatú jazdeckú históriu v rámci 24h Le Mans (6 víťazstiev), F1 (8 víťazstiev) a takto by sme mohli menovať ešte veľa úspechov. No poďme už k samotnému modelu. Ako sme už spomenuli, model je priam posiaty detailmi a dobre navrhnutými líniami skeletu, podľa reálnej predlohy. Ocenili sme kvalitne navrhnutú prednú časť vozidla, ktoré má na prednom nárazníku i ochranný rám masky chladiča. Stierače na čelnom skle i spätné zrkadlá príjemne oživujú model. To isté platí o interiéry. Zaujímavosťou je rezervné koleso v zadnej časti kabíny. Cez zadné okno dverí je vidieť nielen rezervná pneumatika, ale i ďalšie vybavenie interiéru.

We would like to pause here, the name of the driver of the Mercedes 280 GE Jacky Icks (Jacques Bernard “ICKS”) also embodies the extraordinary racing history. This racer has a rich riding history in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (6 wins), F1 (8 wins) and this is how we could name many more successes. Well, let’s go to the model itself. As we have already mentioned, the model is directly studded with details and well-designed skeletal lines, according to a real car. We appreciated the well-designed front part of the vehicle, which has a protective frame of the radiator grille on the front bumper. Windshield wipers and rear-view mirrors pleasantly enliven the model. The same goes for interiors. An interesting feature is the spare wheel in the rear of the cab. Not only the spare tire, but also other interior equipment can be seen through the rear door window.
Lakovanie sme vyhodnotili ako zlé. Bohužiaľ sme na modely našli množstvo zalakovaných nečistôt a tiež i nízku hladinu pigmentu bielej farby. To je najviac zreteľné v zadnej časti kabíny na ostrých uhloch. Naopak nálepky, signovanie sponzorov je na dobrej úrovni. I pod drobnohľadom sú nálepky zreteľné a ostré i keď nie vždy presne usadené. Pohľad na detailne navrhnutý podvozok bol pre nás očakávaním ktoré sa vyplnilo. Nielen množstvo detailov ale i dobre navrhnuté kolesá nás presvedčili, že NOREV vie ako robiť modely. Celý pohľad na dobrý i keď troška nenápadný model chceme uzavrieť prehľadom vložených výrazných detailov. Za povšimnutie na predných blatníkoch stojí dvojica smerových ukazovateľov jazdy. Taktiež dvojica svetiel na streche nad spolujazdcom a v neposlednom rade i veľmi výrazne lapače prachu za zadnými kolesami. Jednoducho povedané NOREV model dotiahol do detailu. We evaluated the painting as bad. Unfortunately, we found a lot of painted dirt on the models and also a low level of white pigment. This is most visible at the rear of the cab at sharp angles. On the contrary, stickers, signing sponsors is at a good level. Even as you zoom in, the stickers are clear and sharp. Not always precisely seated. The view of the detailed chassis was an expectation for us that was fulfilled. Not only a lot of details but also well-designed wheels convinced us that NOREV knows how to make models. We want to close the whole view of a good, albeit slightly inconspicuous, model with an overview of the inserted significant details. It is worth noting on the front fenders a pair of direction indicators. Also a pair of lights on the roof above the passenger and, last but not least, very significant dust collectors behind the rear wheels. In short, the NOREV model drew into detail.
